From CSUN to NASA to nFlux AI:
Seyed Sajjadi’s Journey of
Innovation and Impact

Building the Foundation

Seyed Sajjadi’s journey into the world of artificial intelligence and robotics began with a passion for solving complex problems. As a research assistant at CSUN, Seyed worked on groundbreaking projects that combined machine learning and neuroscience. Under an NIH grant, he developed a brain-to-speech system using electroencephalogram (EEG) signals, enabling individuals with locked-in syndrome (LiS), a rare neurological disorder, to communicate through a virtual keyboard. (People with LiS have total paralysis but still have consciousness and their normal cognitive abilities.) This early work laid the foundation for his future endeavors in AI and robotics, showcasing his ability to bridge cutting-edge technology with real-world applications.

Leading Innovation at ARCS and SERL

Seyed’s career took a significant leap when, while still a student, he joined the Systems Engineering Research Laboratory (SERL) at CSUN, which later became part of ARCS. Under a grant from the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Seyed led an interdisciplinary team of 90+ student researchers to develop advanced robotics search-and-rescue systems. These systems, which included autonomous rovers and drones, were designed to assist firefighters in disaster scenarios, such as the aftermath of the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

At ARCS, Seyed spearheaded the design of autonomous systems equipped with visual and auditory sensors to detect and tag humans in challenging environments. His team utilized Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) technology to navigate disaster zones and developed a “Robo-leader” system to facilitate seamless communication between operators and robots. This work not only enhanced disaster response capabilities but also demonstrated Seyed’s ability to lead large, interdisciplinary teams toward impactful solutions.

From NASA to nFlux AI

Seyed’s expertise in AI and robotics impressed NASA JPL, where he worked on two high-profile missions: Europa Clipper and CADRE/PUFFER. At JPL, Seyed contributed to software architecture, behavior modeling, and cyber-risk assessments, ensuring the success of missions aimed at exploring Europa’s icy moon and deploying CADRE’s origami-inspired robots on the lunar surface.

Building on his experience at NASA, Seyed founded nFlux AI, a company dedicated to developing cutting-edge AI solutions that augment human capabilities. Initially focused on assisting astronauts in deep space missions, nFlux AI has since expanded its technology to support manufacturing operators, preserving millions of jobs by enhancing worker efficiency and safety. Today, nFlux AI serves prestigious clients like NASA, Stellantis, Airbus, and Mercedes Benz, and is backed by prominent investors such as Amazon and Techstars.

A Legacy of Innovation

Seyed’s journey from ARCS to NASA then on to nFlux AI demonstrates his unwavering commitment to innovation and ability to translate complex technologies into practical, life-changing solutions. His work at ARCS and SERL not only advanced the field of robotics, but inspired a new generation of engineers and researchers to tackle global challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration.

As Seyed continues to push the boundaries of AI and robotics, his journey serves as a powerful reminder of the impact one individual can have when driven by curiosity, determination, and a desire to make the world a better place.
